Capilano vs Lynn Canyon
Capilano Suspension Bridge against the free Lynn Canyon suspension bridge: height, length, cost, crowds, getting there and who each one suits, honestly (Oct 2026).
If you only want to walk a swaying suspension bridge over a North Shore canyon, go to Lynn Canyon Park: its bridge is 50 m above the canyon and free for anyone to cross. Capilano charges for a bigger bridge, 137 m long and 70 m up, plus the Cliffwalk and the Treetops Adventure that Lynn Canyon does not have. Neither is the wrong choice; they answer different questions.

Choose Lynn Canyon if
- The bridge is what you came for, and the budget is tight. Lynn Canyon’s bridge sways over a deep canyon in the same coastal rainforest, and it costs nothing.
- You want a walk, not an attraction. The park is a forest park of the District of North Vancouver with trails along the canyon; the bridge is part of the Baden Powell Trail.
- You have a car or plenty of time. It is a bus and a walk from Lonsdale Quay, with no shuttle from downtown.
What Lynn Canyon has that Capilano does not is the river itself. Turn left after the bridge and the trail follows the river to the 30 Foot Pool, a swimming hole that lynncanyon.ca calls one of the most popular spots in the park: quiet in winter, lined with people on the warm rocks in summer, and very cold even then. Past the pool a long wooden stairway climbs to the top of the canyon and the Pipe Bridge. Turn right down the boardwalk after the bridge instead, then right at the fork, for Twin Falls. The bridge itself is narrow, lynncanyon.ca says crossing gets nerve-racking when several people try to cross at once, and it suggests waiting until it is clear for photos.
Be honest with yourself about what it is not: there is no Cliffwalk, no treetop walkway and no cultural centre, and the bridge is lower. The Ecology Centre asks a suggested donation of CA$2 a person or CA$5 a family.
Choose Capilano if
- You want the big bridge and the rest of the park. Three high walks, the 70 m bridge, the Cliffwalk on the cliff face and the Treetops in the firs, on one ticket.
- You have no car. The free shuttle from Canada Place and two other downtown stops takes about 20 minutes, which is easier than a bus and a walk.
- It is winter. Canyon Lights, from 20 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, lights the bridge and the trees after dark; Lynn Canyon closes at dusk.
What the Capilano ticket covers and the ticket prices are the next step if you choose it.
Doing both
The two are close enough for one day with a car, or with a guide: Bearly There Tours' Capilano and Lynn Canyon tour (US$142, 6.5 hours, checked October 2026) includes the Capilano ticket and adds Lynn Canyon, Cleveland Dam, Capilano Lake and Stanley Park, with hotel pickup. It also lists the Capilano River Hatchery, which has been closed to the public for construction since 1 October 2026.
Capilano’s measurements, history, price, hours, shuttle, bus and parking are from capbridge.com; Lynn Canyon’s bridge height, year, free crossing, the Baden Powell Trail, the 30 Foot Pool, the stairway, Twin Falls and the bridge’s crowding from lynncanyon.ca (trails, 30 Foot Pool and suspension bridge pages); its hours, parking, the free east lot, the Ecology Centre’s donation, the café, the bus and accessibility from the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre’s plan-your-visit page; the hatchery closure from Metro Vancouver. The tour from its GetYourGuide listing, read in US dollars on 30 October 2026. The road distance is measured on the map. All read in October 2026.
