Grouse Mountain and Capilano Suspension Bridge
Grouse Mountain and Capilano in one day: the Skyride ticket, what is open in winter, the bridge-and-mountain tours, bus 236 and the Grouse Grind (Oct 2026).
Grouse Mountain is the other half of a North Shore day: its Skyride gondola starts about 3.6 km up Capilano Road from the bridge, and the simplest way to add it is the mountain’s own admission ticket, from US$67 a person on GetYourGuide (checked October 2026). The ticket is good all day with no reserved time. Do the bridge in the morning and ride up in the afternoon, or let a tour drive you to both.
What the mountain ticket covers
Grouse Mountain’s admission is a round trip on the Red Skyride or the Blue Grouse Gondola, plus what is open up top that day: the Grizzly Bear Habitat, ranger and owl talks, the Kids Tree Canopy Adventure, the scenic lookouts and the Theatre in the Sky. On its own site the mountain lists an adult (19 to 64) at $89, a senior at $79, a youth (13 to 18) at $69 and a child (5 to 12) at $49, with lower Lower Mainland resident rates, all in Canadian dollars (October 2026). Tickets are for the date chosen and non-refundable on the mountain’s site; the GetYourGuide ticket carries free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Check the season. Grouse is a summer mountain and a winter mountain, and the changeover matters. The lumberjack show is closed for the season after summer 2026 and back in summer 2027; Birds in Motion and the Peak Chairlift are closed for the season too, and the mountain’s free summer shuttle from Canada Place ended on 12 October 2026.
The grizzly habitat has one bear now. Grinder, who came to the mountain as an orphaned cub in 2001, was put down on 31 July 2026 at 25, after an irreversible spinal condition paralysed his hind legs; Coola remains, and the mountain says he is healthy. The bears hibernate through the winter: in 2025 they went into the den on 24 November, so from late November the habitat is quiet until spring. In winter the mountain turns to snowshoe trails, the sliding zone, the skating pond and skiing, which is a separate ticket. Peak of Christmas runs from 20 November to 24 December 2026, with a Light Walk around Blue Grouse Lake, included with admission.
Both in one day
On your own, the two fit in a day with time to spare. Bus 236 runs from Lonsdale Quay to the bridge and on to Grouse Mountain, so take the SeaBus over, ride to the bridge, then catch the same route uphill; or drive. Cleveland Dam, on the way, is in Capilano River Regional Park, open from 7 am (October 2026). The Capilano River Hatchery next to it has been closed to the public for construction since 1 October 2026, so do not plan on it.

The Westcoast Sightseeing tour and the Happy Hour car tour list the Capilano hatchery among their stops; it is closed to the public, so expect that stop to be skipped or changed.
The Grouse Grind
The Grouse Grind is the steep way up: 2.5 km and 2,830 steps, about 800 m of climb, which takes most people two to two and a half hours. Hiking down it is not allowed; you ride the Skyride down on a download ticket, $20 from age 13 or $10 for a child, unless you hold mountain admission. It is closed for maintenance until 10 November 2026, the BCMC Trail beside it stays open, and Metro Vancouver closes it in winter when conditions are hazardous.
